Trip to Google Headquarters of Switzerland

Today Grade 10 of ISW left at 12:00 O´clock to visit the Google headquarters in Zürich. The train form Oberwintherthur went directly to Bahnhof Enge, which saved time and also we didn’t have to switch trains. When we arrived at Google we were given Badges, after we placed our bags in the changing  room, as a result we could walk around freely and easily. The father of Caroline V.W. led us to a meeting room, which was specially prepared with drinks and snacks for us. He gave us about an hour presentation on the company of Google itself. To emphasize his talks he showed us around in groups of 6 after he had finished. Of course we had to be quiet when we were shown around the building because people actually had to get their work done. Quietly we were led all over the campus, seeing and trying out many facilities that Google had made for the comfort of their workers. After this was done we returned to the meeting room where we had a short but efficient Q&A session. After he brought us to the changing room again where we picked up our bags and coats and left to go home again.
What I learned from the Google trip today was mostly about how their programs work and what their visions are. The search engine Google one of the most commonly known sites on the web, but it also throws a lot of questions about how it runs. I was always wondering, how can Google finish your sentence when you are still typing on the search bar? He answered that they created an algorithm that takes the words from your sentence that you have written for now and finish your sentence according to how other finished the sentence you are about to type. This was really interesting because programing this must be terribly hard. Another question he answered was about the ads on Google. He said that the ads are related to the text that you type into the search engine, if you search for cars, you will get car ads, if you type in books, you will get ads about book stores and books. This was created by their programmer who created this algorithm so that ads can become more efficient, this gives a higher precentage that the user may actually click on the ad and purchase one of their products. In my opinion Google had a great impact on the Internet. Their achievements have helped everyone in this world and their program is used daily by billions of people all over the world already. Also they have great visions that can help the people in the future, of course not everyone likes their vision but you will never have 100% support by everyone.

  1. You met the required amount of transitions, but I feel like you could have used some other transitions as well. An example is that you used "after" twice in a row, and I believe you could have found another transition to use there. Thesaurus.com is a great place to find synonyms! The rest of your language is great, especially the descriptive words like "efficient" and "emphasize".

I agree with your opinion on the reach of Google. It helps billions of people everyday to find information easily. I was also interested in how the ads worked, and I was glad you brought up the code for completeing sentences. I can't imagine how long it took to get those parts to work correctly.
