Google Trip

We began the google trip by entering the lobby of google where Mr. van Winkel met us. He took our group to the new building. From there we arrived in a meeting room in which we all sat around a large table and listened to Mr. van Winkel's presentation. He began by speaking of google and his position. Later, he talked about the kind of position's they have and their jobs in programming and managing facilities such as data centers. He shared with information on how reliable google has to be, they are 99.XXX% dependable. Furthermore, we split into groups and took a tour of the buildings. We began in the new building where we saw micro kitchens and a lounge. We soon continued to the older, main building. There ex went to he too and looked at the view of Zurich. We covered many floors of the building, crossing through a few restaurants. Eventually, we ended back in the meeting room where we began. We collected our stuff, thanked our tour guides and left. Overall it was an excellent and enjoyable experience.

The trip to google was a rewarding experience. I learned about the way a large company such as google functions. I believe google works exceptionally well compared to man big corporations based on the information we heard. It is nearly a relief to learn how excellent the environment is. Mr. van Winkel spoke of the time google was offline and claimed the man responsible was promoted This, slightly lowers fears one may have for future work. This man made an enormous mistake yet he was rewarded with a higher position. It makes life easier knowing that mistakes don't always mean the end of things. Granted, this man still had to overcome this fault. Additionally, though I learned how important it is that google remains constantly functional. We were told that google must be 99.999% reliable and even adding an extra 9 to the end would take a great deal of money. This large percentage only allows for under 5 minutes of time not functioning per year. The most interesting thing I learned though is that google is colored based on the colors of Legos. The little things like that and the appreciation google seems to have for its workers gives me a respect for google. But, google is a wealthy corporation and I have to believe that this view is somewhat a euphony for no business can function so smoothly. Though, I am positive it functions well for it is the most used website in the internet. It is the dominant search engine  and greatly impacts the usage of the internet.
