My Google Experience
On the monday fifth of May we, grade 10 students, went to the Google facility in Zurich. First, we all met in the lobby at noon and then headed over to take our train. After, a 40 minute long train ride we walked over to the Google building. Then, We got our name tags and then headed over to a meeting room. JC van Winkle was our spokes person, he told us about his job at Google, a brief background of Google and other facts.  Furthermore, we were given a tour of the facilities to better understand what its like to work at Google. Our guide realised how shocked we were at the greatness of the facilities that he explained that as an employee you find the work more interesting than the facilities. Finally, we concluded our visit with a group picture in front of the Google sign.

Our visit to Google has ultimately taught me the inner works and ways of Google. I learn that Google makes profit from their ads. Which fund the building of huge data centres. Data centres which embody thousands of Google made servers, which Google manufactures. These data centres are quite a piece of work as they need 0.5 million volts of power. Additionally, I learned that Google believe that its okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn from it. For example, an employee was to blame for Google shutting for 4 minutes last August. Although Google lost thousands at his expense, he was condemn instead of fired. In regards to Google and the media, I think Google has opened the possibility for us to be in touch with millions more sources and enable us to publish what we know more easily. I don't think that Google is that related to the media world, other than their social network Google+, Google enables us to have a platform to post videos, pictures of current events or socially interact with other. But all through other various website.  As a comparison, they are offering us all the ingredients but we get to chose what to put in our plates. In conclusion, the visit as a whole was educational and enlightening, but didn't relate that much with media.

  1. 1. The choice for the transition words was good. I liked that they were short and direct.
    2. The point made about making mistakes as far as you learn from them was good.
