I Am From - Sonja

Brandon. "A 16 year old genius". 2012. Humans of New York. Photograph. 7 November, 2013.

I am from the day in May
My mother wrapping me
In a new, soft, pink
Bunny blanket.

I am from the journeys taken
Never were they forsaken
Always were they cherished
And always will they be relished.

I am from the snow angels
Scattered across the earth
White miracles everywhere.

I am from the countless books,
Read and re-read
Until the spine
Ceases to exist.

I am from the billions of notebooks
Filled with thoughts of hapiness and sorrow,
Stories of fairies and beauty; of trolls and death
Doodles of nothing and everything.

I am from my aching hands
After hours of playing melodiously
Across the black and white keys.

I am from the late, moonlit nights
Full of the chocolatey, sweet, scent
Of Betty Crocker's cheap box brownies
And the bright TV lights.

I am from the changing places
The cultures engrained within me
I am from the constantly changing faces
And all they have taught me.

  1. I like the hyperbole 'billions of notebooks' because it demonstrates your passion, and the rhyme scheme of cherished and relished.
The use of black and white keys instead of just piano I thought was very clever, and I like that you included mostly about your passions rather then your nationality etc. :)

  2. Your word choice is very good, so good that I can't understand all;)
I like your Metaphors and Hyperbole too.
