Yesterday
Was filled with childish innocence
And endless possibilities
Of the wonder of the world
Imagination was stretched
To the far ends of the Earth
Fear was nonexistant
Today
Is full of difficulties
Lessons are learned each day
Humiliation a daily constant
Through taunts and teenage pimples
Desire to leave is burning
Leave behind yesterday
In search of tomorrow
Loyalty is engrained
Through friendships and backstabbing
Tommorow
Adventure begins
It is ours to claim
Responsibility is ours
Weighing down our independence
Tomorrow is
Dependent upon yesterday and today
Shaping who we are
Like a tree
Roots take place
But we continue to grow
Defiant of yesterday
Tomorrow is a mystery
A new possibility
To change what is
To become what will be
Your poem is very good. I think with your poem it is written so many of us can relate to it. I think the poem is less focused on you but a somewhat generalization of a teenagers past present and future. Also you used enjambment extremely well. I like the simile in the 4th stanza "shaping who we are like a tree [...]"
ReplyDeleteYour poem is excellent I love how much depth it has and how it can really connect to the reader. I also like your word choice a lot.
